Vol. 343 No. 7

Written Answers. - River Shannon Drainage.

658.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will provide the necessary funds to the drainage survey of the River Shannon; the amount of grant allocated by the EEC for this survey; and the amount allocated in the budget of 1982 for this project.

It was decided in the 1983 Budget to defer the proposed multipurpose feasibility study of the River Shannon flood problem and consequently no funds are being provided for it this year.

The Commission of the European Communities has agreed to make a contribution of 40 per cent of the total cost of the survey, up to a maximum of £400,000.

A provision of £100,000 was made in the 1982 Vote for Public Works and Buildings for that survey but it was not used.
