Vol. 345 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Refunds.

353.

asked the Minister for Finance the reasons for the long delay in making a tax refund to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; the amount of the refund due; and the date on which it will be paid.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer has not submitted a tax repayment claim to the inspector of taxes for any recent year. The inspector is writing to the taxpayer for the documentation required to process a claim and, on receipt of the necessary details, the position will be reviewed and any tax found to have been over-deducted will be refunded to the taxpayer.

asked the Minister for Finance the reasons a tax refund has not been made to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; the amount due; and the date on which the money will be forwarded to him as he has been waiting for a long time.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the inspector of taxes is unable to review the liabilities in this case for the years 1980-81 and 1981-82 until details of farm land owned by the taxpayer are supplied. This information has been requested by the inspector on four separate occasions since April 1981.

A cheque in settlement of the tax suffered for 1983-84 was issued to the taxpayer on 10 October 1983, on the basis of the information available to the inspector but the position for that year may require to be reviewed on receipt of the outstanding information requested in respect of the earlier years.
