Vol. 345 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

399.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if a person in receipt of an invalidity pension from the UK is entitled to a free electricity supply under EEC regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Receipt of an invalidity pension from the United Kingdom does not satisfy the conditions for receipt of a free electricity allowance. The free electricity allowance scheme is a scheme of social assistance and is not governed by the EEC Regulations on social security for migrant workers.

400.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason a person (details supplied) in County Monaghan was refused unemployment assistance.

The person concerned was assessed with means of £32.05 weekly derived from the value of board and lodging on her father's holding. The amount of means assessed against her exceeded the maximum rate of unemployment assistance payable to her and accordingly her claim was disallowed.

She appealed against the disallowance but an appeals officer upheld the amount of means assessed against her and accordingly she is not entitled to payment.
