Vol. 345 No. 1

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Areas Scheme.

450.

asked the Minister for Agriculture what consideration he and his Department are giving to the inclusion of the following district electoral divisions in the disadvantaged areas scheme: Kilbeheny, Kilglass, Knocknascrow, Angelsboro, Riversdale and part of the DED of Clonbeg, Coolagarronroe, Burncourt, Kilcoran, Tubrid, Kilcommin, Killadriffe and Templeeniry; and whether he proposes to submit these district electoral divisions for inclusion in his submission to Brussels on the extension of the scheme.

Mountain sheep grazing lands in all the district electoral divisions mentioned, with the exception of Kilglass, have already been designated by the EEC authorities as disadvantaged for the purposes of Council Directive 75/268/EEC. In the course of the national review of the boundaries of the disadvantaged areas, now being completed in my Department, the position in these areas has been examined in the light of the criteria laid down in the directive to see whether they might be reclassified thereby qualifying for additional benefits. This review is a prelude to consideration by the Government, and later by the EEC authorities, of the case for modifications of the boundaries in this country.
