Vol. 345 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Dublin Educational Facilities.

489.

asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the proposed schedule of development for educational facilities at, or in the vicinity of the Bawnogue area of Clondalkin, County Dublin, giving details of proposals at primary and secondary school level; and the position in relation to each school level.

My Department have recently sanctioned a grant for the provision of six prefabricated classrooms at the Bawnogue national schools, Clondalkin, County Dublin. These classrooms will enable the pupils from Deansrath to continue to be catered for at Bawnogue pending the provision of a new national school at Deansrath. Tenders for the building of this latter school have been received and the question of releasing the project to contract is at present being considered. On completion of the school at Deansrath, the prefabricated classrooms will be retained at Bawnogue to serve the needs of the Bawnogue area.

It is intended to provide a new post-primary school in the Deansrath/ Bawnogue area of Clondalkin. The architectural planning of the school has commenced. The date by which the school should open has not yet been decided.

Extensions to provide additional accommodation at St. Mark's national schools, Springfield, Tallaght, County Dublin, have recently been provided and there are no plans at present under consideration to provide additional facilities at these schools.

If the Deputy wishes to contact me in specific terms about any problems of educational provision in the Springfield area I shall be happy to have matters investigated and communicate further with him.

491.

asked the Minister for Education the proposals or arrangements made to provide for the additional second-level education facilities needed in the Springfield area of Tallaght, County Dublin.

492.

asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that adequate accommodation is provided for all those students in the Springfield area of Tallaght, County Dublin who wish to pursue post-primary education in future years.

I propose to take Question Nos. 491 and 492 together.

Adequate provisions will be made for post-primary pupils in the Springfield area in the context of the provision being made for post-primary education in the west Tallaght area generally. The existing St. Mark's Community School in Springfield can accommodate 1,000 pupils. The Killinarden Community School premises is to be ready for occupation by September 1984 and a new post-primary school building in Brookfield is due to be ready for occupation by September, 1985. Each of these two new schools will also have accommodation for 1,000 pupils. Further post-primary accommodation will be provided as it is needed.

It is intended to open the Brookfield post-primary school in interim accommodation in September, 1984.
