Vol. 345 No. 1

Written Answers. - Harbour Development.

276.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he is aware that the delay in finalising plans for the new extension to Rosabhil Harbour, County Galway, is impeding the development of the sea fishing industry in County Galway and has resulted in the loss of industrial employment in fish factories which have had to be located elsewhere because of the delay; and if he will make a full statement on the matter.

277.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the reason for the delay in finalising plans for the future development of Rosabhil Harbour, County Galway.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 276 and 277 together. In the development plan for Rosabhil Harbour provision requires to be made for onshore and offshore facilities that will cater for the landing, marketing, and processing of the catch as well as the servicing of the fleet.

A comprehensive brief on which the overall plan might be based has been forwarded to the Office of Public Works and it is expected that a draft plan will be available shortly for presentation to the Rosabhil Harbour Development Advisory Committee for its consideration.

278.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the progress made since he received the UCC report on Clogerhead Harbour, County Louth; and when work will begin on the much needed development of the harbour.

The report on the hydraulic model investigation carried out at University College, Cork in relation to the improvement of Clogerhead Pier is at present being considered by my Department and the Louth County Council. Until such time as the views of both bodies have been collated and a firm proposal has been drawn up and costed I cannot say what works will be approved or when work is likely to commence.
