Vol. 345 No. 6

Written Answers. - Trim (Meath) Unemployment.

269.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if he is aware of the recent huge increase in the number of people signing at Trim employment exchange, County Meath, between 26 February 1982 and 30 September 1983; and the steps he is taking to ensure alternative employment for them.

I am seriously concerned at the unemployment situation in Trim. I would point out however that manufacturing employment in the town is higher than its 1979 level.

Insulated Chimneys Ltd., which commenced production in Trim in January 1983 and now employs 50 people, plans to increase this employment to 100 by the end of 1984.

The IDA have a 23-acre site available for industrial development in Trim and the 25,000 sq. ft. factory being constructed for the IDA under a private finance arrangement in the town is expected to be completed by the end of this year. In addition Meath County Council plan to construct two 1,000 sq. ft. small industry units in the town.
