Vol. 345 No. 7

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

232.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in installing a telephone for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo; and if, in view of the fact that work is in progress on the construction of lines in this area, he will arrange to have the telephone installed.

I regret that it has not been possible to provide service for the person named so far because of a shortage of necessary equipment at the local telephone exchange. It is expected that the service will be provided following the conversion of the exchange to automatic working next year.

233.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the long delay in having a telephone installed for a firm (details supplied) in County Wexford, who are unable to operate due to the lack of telephone service.

247.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 233 and 247 together.

It is regretted that it has not been possible to provide telephone service so far for the person named, whose application was received in August 1983, because of the large volume of engineering work on hands and requiring attention in the County Wexford area.

It is expected that service will be provided early next year.

234.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs in view of constant acts of vandalism if he will consider replacing the old type telephone in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, with a new type pay-phone.

The level of vandalism to the public telephones in Enniscorthy is not considered excessive. It is planned to replace the existing public telephones in Enniscorthy with the new type pay-phones as soon as possible as part of the general pay-phone conversion programme.

235.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will investigate the reasons the public telephone kiosk at Boolavogue, County Wexford, is continuously out of use; and if he will arrange to have the present telephone kiosk replaced by the new type pay-phone.

The public telephone kiosk at Boolavogue does not suffer from an excessive number of faults. It is planned to replace the existing telephone with a new pay-phone as soon as possible as part of the general pay-phone conversion programme.

236.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

It has not been possible in the time available to trace an application on behalf of the person named. If the Deputy can furnish additional information, e.g. when and where the application was made further efforts will be made to trace it.

237.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange to have a telephone service examined for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 3 as it has been faulty since a telephone extension was installed recently.

A fault on this subscriber's telephone line has been repaired and service is now satisfactory.
