Vol. 345 No. 8

Written Answers - Army Officers' Residences.

264.

asked the Minister for Defence if there is a prohibition on the recruitment of commissioned Army officers living in local authority houses; if it is permissible for a commissioned Army officer to reside in a local authority house, either as a married person or with his or her parents; and if the Army authorities in his Department have a policy in this regard.

There is no prohibition on the appointment to commissioned rank in the Defence Forces of persons residing in local authority houses. Under Defence Force Regulations single officers are normally required to occupy public quarters. The regulations contain no provision which prohibits officer of the Defence Forces from residing in local authority houses.
