The subscribers accounts were investigated and were found to be correct. The meter and associated equipment were also checked and were found to be in good working order. A change of meter is not warranted in the circumstances.

293.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when Ballydesmond telephone exchange, County Cork, will become automatic; the progress that has been made in making it so; and when further telephones will be installed in the area.

Special arrangements which had been made to provide automatic service at Ballydesmond before the end of this year by the temporary use of a mobile exchange unit have been upset by a strike involving an equipment contractor's staff. This strike is delaying the commissioning of an exchange which will enable release of the mobile unit for transfer to Ballydesmond. In the circumstances, it is not possible at present to give a forecast for conversion of Ballydesmond other than to say that, hopefully, the conversion should be effected about five months after the strike ends. Much of the necessary advance works at Ballydesmond have already been completed or are in hands.

It is expected that the waiting applications for service at Ballydesmond will be attended to progressively within about six months after the exchange has been converted to auto.
