Vol. 345 No. 8

Written Answers - EIB Loans.

322.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will provide a complete list on a county by county basis of all loans made available from the European Investment Bank through its various lending procedures to Ireland since 1979.

Since 1979, loans totalling £1,179.81 million have been made available to this country by the European Investment Bank either from its own resources or from the resources of the New Community Instrument for Borrowing and Lending (NIC). These loans have been concentrated mainly in helping to finance the main programmes of economic infrastructure notably telecommunications, energy, roads and water supply and sewerage. These programmes, e.g., telephone subscriber connections, electricity distribution link-ups, are by their nature very widely dispersed and cover every county. The loans are related to the total cost of the programmes and it would not be practicable to give a county by county breakdown of the amounts involved.
