Written Answers - National Schools.

asked the Minister for Education the position concerning the extension to Ardfert national school, County Kerry.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his previous question on 25 May, 1983 wherein I indicated that the invitation of tenders for the extension to Ardfert national school, County Kerry, had been deferred pending a review of the future enrolments at the school. The investigations necessary for this review have now been carried out and a final report is awaited. The question of inviting tenders for the project will be considered in the light of this report.

asked the Minister for Education if she will approve the construction of a new national school at Lisheenkyle, Athenry, County Galway; and if she will instruct her Department to abandon their plans to amalgamate Lisheenkyle national school with Coldwood national school, Craughwell, County Galway.

The views of the boards of management were sought on a proposal to centralise Lisheenkyle and Coldwood national schools in a new school building. These views have only just been received in my Department and are under consideration. A decision in the case will be made as soon as possible.

382.

asked the Minister for Education the position in relation to the proposed new national school at Illestrim, Letterkenny, County Donegal; and if urgent steps will be taken to have this school erected without further delay.

Sketch plans for the proposed new national school at Illestrim, Letterkenny, County Donegal, have been approved, the title to the site has been established as satisfactory and a grant has been sanctioned recently towards the cost of the project. The further architectural planning arrangements are a matter for the Commissioners of Public Works. Every effort will be made to ensure that there is no avoidable delay in providing the new school.
