As I stated in reply to Question No. 442 on 25 October 1983, I have introduced a scheme whereby a reduction in fees for the certificate examinations may be allowed by school authorities in cases of particular hardship. Under that scheme account should be taken of the circumstances of individual parents and, in particular, the circumstances of parents on social welfare benefits.
