Vol. 347 No. 6

Written Answers. - Share Fishermen.

297.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the areas in Ireland, other than Donegal south west, where share fishermen operate that have been investigated by the special investigation unit of his Department.

The special investigation unit was established to deal specifically with abuse of the social welfare system by persons working while concurrently signing for unemployment payments. This includes all classes of workers as well as share fishermen. The unit is deployed on a country-wide basis and its activities are ongoing. Investigations into possible working and signing by share fishermen have taken place in a number of fishing areas throughout the country outside of Donegal where share fishermen operate. These areas include Clogherhead, Fenit, Castletownbere, Schull, Dunmore East.
