Vol. 349 No. 2

Written Answers. - PAYE Tax Demands.

429.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin 5 who has been unemployed since July 1982 is still receiving tax demands from the PAYE Section, Dublin No. 6 District of the Office of Inspector of Taxes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the demands which are issuing in the present case relate mainly to the non-PAYE income of the taxpayer and his spouse. On the basis of the information available to the inspector of taxes, the taxpayer and his wife were self-employed and estimated assessments to income tax were raised on him on this basis for a number of years. The taxpayer was also in receipt of earnings from employment for some of those years.

In the circumstances it is considered that the taxpayer's affairs could best be dealt with by a discussion with the inspector who will now contact him to arrange a meeting.
