Vol. 349 No. 9

Written Answers. - Workers' Participation Act.

539.

asked the Minister for Labour if he intends to extend the provisions of the Workers' Participation Act, 1977, to vocational education committees; and if so; when the necessary legislation will be introduced.

The Worker Participation (State Enterprises) Act, 1977, made provision for the appointment to the boards of directors of seven designated State enterprises, of employees of the enterprises who have been elected by their colleagues. As regards vocational education committees, I would refer the Deputy to the reply given by the Minister for Education in the Dáil on 2 February 1984 to a question put down by Deputy Fahey in which she indicated that it was her intention to have the Vocational Education Act, 1930, amended so as to provide for teacher representation on vocational educational committees and that the preparation of legislation for that purpose was receiving attention.
