Vol. 349 No. 10

Written Answers. - Wood Quay (Dublin) Site.

477.

asked the Taoiseach if he is aware that there is an unexcavated area in the north west corner of the site at Wood Quay; and if his Department will make funds available for proper excavation.

The National Museum of Ireland are aware that there is an unexcavated area of archaeological deposits in the north west area of the Wood Quay site. Informal discussions have taken place with officials of Dublin Corporation concerning the possible excavation of the site in the current year. Some provision was made in the Department of Education's Estimates for the current year. Excavation of the site will be contingent on the development plans for the civic offices and will be carried out in accordance with the terms of the necessary joint consent of the Commissioners of Public Works and Dublin Corporation.

The corporation have not as yet invited the National Museum to undertake the excavation of this final part of the Wood Quay site.
