Dáil Éireann díospóireacht -
Thursday, 21 Jun 1984

Vol. 352 No. 1

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take items Nos. 2 and 10.

By agreement the Dáil shall sit later than 5.30 p.m. today and not later than 10.30 a.m. tomorrow — the House will be pleased to know — and the hour at which business is to be interrupted shall be 10 a.m.

Also by agreement the proceedings on the Committee Stage of the Criminal Justice Bill, 1983, if not previously concluded, shall be brought to a conclusion at 10 a.m. tomorrow by one question which shall be put from the Chair and which shall, in relation to amendments, include only amendments set down by the Minister for Justice.

Also by agreement, the Dáil shall meet at 10.30 a.m. tomorrow morning and shall adjourn not later than 5 p.m. and business shall be confined to Estimates for Public Services. I hope the House will have a happy breakfast.

Is it being provided free?

Is there money left?

Are the sitting arrangements for today and tomorrow agreed?

Yes. I must express my appreciation of the delightful irony by which the Government have made 21 June, which is normally the longest day of the year, very definitely the longest day of the year.

(Interruptions)

I wish to protest that there is no time allowed for an Adjournment debate.

, Dún Laoghaire): There is half an hour provided for an Adjournment debate.

(Interruptions.)

I should appreciate the Taoiseach, the Minister for Communications or the Minister of State intervening to try to solve the RTE strike. I appreciate that at present it suits the Government to have RTE on strike——

(Interruptions.)

——in so far as the victorious European eight seats and the by-election victory in Laois-Offaly are concerned. I know it suits the Government to have them on strike but I can assure them that if we had lost a few seats they would have them back on the air.

(Interruptions.)

I do not foresee Deputies being so bright at this time tomorrow morning.
