Vol. 352 No. 3

Written Answers. - Monaghan Fire Service.

462.

asked the Minister for Defence if he proposes to make funds available for the purchase of a fire engine for Monaghan auxiliary fire service in view of the fact that they are national award winners and had to borrow an engine to enable them to compete in the competition.

The fire appliance on issue to Monaghan County Council for use by the local civil defence auxiliary fire service was purchased locally by my Department in 1983 for that purpose at the request of and on the advice of that local authority.

My Department was recently notified by the Town Clerk, Monaghan Urban District Council that the urban council had adopted the following resolution:—

"That this council requests the Minister for Defence to provide the Monaghan auxiliary fire service with a proper fire tender."

The matter is at present being examined by my Department and I shall communicate the result to the Deputy.
