Vol. 353 No. 7

Written Answers. - Income Tax.

564.

asked the Minister for Finance the amount of income tax collected both under the PAYE system and under the direct assessment system in directors division, Dublin general, for the years 1981, 1982 and 1983.

Statistics are not available which would enable separate figures to be supplied in respect of income tax collected from persons dealt with in directors division, Dublin general. This information could not be obtained without undertaking an inquiry which could be carried out only at a disproportionate cost.

The only statistics prepared relate to all company directors throughout the country and the latest figures available are those which have been extracted from the record of employees in respect of the tax year 1981-82. Using these statistics it is tentatively estimated that the income tax paid by all company directors was of the order of £100 million in that year.
