Vol. 354 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Aid for the Elderly.

20.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he can give an assurance that the necessary finance for housing aid for the elderly, administered by the North-Eastern Health Board, will continue.

A provision of £1 million has been made for the scheme of special housing aid for the elderly in the 1985 public capital programme. The North-Eastern Health Board will be notified of their allocation from this provision during December following a meeting of the task force which, I understand, has been fixed for 11 December.

Is the Minister aware that this is one of the best schemes ever introduced by the local authorities and that it is administered very efficiently by the health board? I hope it will be continued because there is a large waiting list in the four counties concerned.

I agree that it is a first class scheme which is well administered. I note the Deputy's point in regard to its continuance.
