Vol. 354 No. 5

Written Answers. - Consultancy Services.

671.

andMr. O'Kennedy asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the expenditure of £300,000 on consultancy work estimated for her Department in 1985; the number of people who will be employed on this work; and how they will be recruited.

The sum of £300,000 which has been provided for expenditure on consultancy work in 1985 has been allocated for the design and implementation of a computer system to assist in the running of the intermediate and leaving certificate examinations.

The recruitment of a firm of consultants for work on the design of a system is under way at present. Pending the selection of a firm, it is not possible to say how many people will be employed on the project. The number involved in a consultancy project of this nature however would be small.

The recruitment procedures used by my Department are those outlined by the Department of the Public Service Booklet, entitled Employing Management Consultants — Code of Practice for Government Departments.
