Vol. 354 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Cork Garda Station.

828.

asked the Minister for Justice when the full complement of gardaí will be assigned to the new Garda station in Gurranebraher, Cork; the total number of members that will be assigned there; the geographical area under the jurisdiction of the new station; and if an officer of superintendent rank will be assigned there.

Limerick East): The new Garda station at Gurranebraher serves the area formerly policed from Shandon station. I am informed by the Garda authorities that the current overall Garda strength at Gurranebraher is 36, all ranks, which represents a net increase of seven over the strength of the station party which transferred there from Shandon on 3 August 1984. The Garda authorities have no proposals at present to allocate additional manpower to Gurranebraher station but the matter will be kept under review.

The superintendent at McCurtain Street station has responsibility for the policing of the Cork City North Garda District, which includes the area served by Gurranebraher station, and any question of altering this arrangement will be a matter for consideration in the course of the current review of the organisation of the Garda Síochána in Cork city and surrounding areas.
