Vol. 354 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Wexford National School.

838.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the overcrowded and unfit condition of Bree national school, County Wexford; if she is aware that six teachers and six classes are housed in three classrooms, two prefabricated buildings and a hall three hundred yards distance from the school from which the children must walk to and fro in all kinds of weather and that sanitation facilities are way below standards; if she will, as a matter of urgency, sanction the building of the necessary accommodation immediately; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department have received a satisfactory sketch scheme for the extension proposed to Bree national school, County Wexford, whereby the school will be provided with a total of six classrooms and a general purposes area.

My Department are in communication with the school authorities regarding the local contribution towards the cost of the project and the production of evidence of good title to the parcel of land required by way of site extension. As soon as these matters have been resolved, my Department will sanction a grant for the proposed extension. The preparation of contract documents can then be put in hands. It is not possible at this stage to say when building work on the project may commence.
