asked the Minister for Labour if he will give full details of all financial and other assistance available to organisations involved in community youth work.

My Department support community youth work by making financial assistance available for voluntary youth organisations and groups to assist them provide educational and recreational programmes for young people. Total financial assistance allocated for this purpose to date in 1984 is £2,124,794.

This is broken down as follows:

Youth Service Grants to Headquarters Youth Organisations — £1,878,650;

Grants for In-Service Training of Full time Youth Workers — £26,456;

Grants for youth projects in disadvantaged areas — £148,000;

Miscellaneous — £18,325;

Cross-Border and British-Irish Exchange Schemes — £53,363.

My Department, also, through the youth employment scheme and AnCO's community youth training programme provide substantial assistance to community youth work. The new social employment scheme will also be specifically geared to assist community groups, youth clubs and other similar organisations. Of course, a number of other Government Departments also support the promotion and development of community youth work.
