Vol. 354 No. 7

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

670.

asked the Minister for the Environment if approval has yet issued to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny for a house improvement grant.

A maximum grant of £600 has been approved in this case in respect of the carrying out of necessary repairs to the applicant's dwelling.

671.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a house improvement grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

There is no record in my Department of the receipt of an application for a house improvement grant from the person named.

672.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a £1,000 grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

A new house grant will be paid in this case when an inspection establishes that the house is complete and occupied and complies with all other conditions governing the grant scheme. My Department's inspector has been asked to expedite his investigation and report in the case.

673.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will reconsider his decision to refuse a £1,000 grant to a person (details supplied) in County Galway because he converted his garage; and if he will accept the reason for having to convert the garage was to provide for his sister-in-law who is urgently in need of housing accomodation.

A grant cannot be allowed in this case because the floor area of the house exceeds the maximum floor area allowable for grant purposes under the relevant regulations, i.e. 125 sq. metres (1346 sq. feet). As this is a statutory condition the rejection of this application must stand irrespective of the reason for increasing the area of the house.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for the Environment when payment of a house improvement grant will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal.

This grant will be paid as soon as possible.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for the Environment when payment of a house improvement grant will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal.

The application in this case was for a grant for the carrying out of repairs to the basic fabric of the house. That application cannot be allowed, as approval to a grant under the essential repair grant scheme has been issued by Donegal County Council in respect of this house. The applicant has been so informed.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for the Environment the total of money available for the next year in respect of the new £5,000 grant scheme for local authority tenants and tenant purchasers; the source of such funds; and whether it is envisaged that the introduction of this scheme will result in a reduction in the number of local authority houses to be provided in the future.

A sum of £2 million has been provided under subhead E.4 of my Department's Estimate for 1985 for the payment of the new £5,000 grant to certain local authority tenants and tenant purchasers. The Government's intentions in regard to the housing of households through the local authority programme are set out in paragraph 5.85 of the national plan.
