Vol. 354 No. 7

Written Answers. - Clogherhead (Louth) Pier.

697.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the current position regarding the improvement of Clogherhead pier; if he is satisfied with the length of time this serious matter has taken; if this project will be considered as part of the £6 million to be allocated for harbour development over the next three years; the plans his Department has for further meetings with Louth County Council; if having visited the harbour, he agrees that the problem is a very serious and urgent one; if he expects that the final plan will be available before 1 January 1985; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The proposed development of Clogherhead pier is high on my Department's list of priorities for fishery harbour development. Because of the complex nature of the proposed development works, however, comprehensive and time consuming surveys of the area were necessary before detailed plans could be prepared.

At a meeting in July 1984 between officials of my Department, the Office of Public Works, Louth County Council and their consulting engineers, a further report was sought from the consultants. I am pleased to say that this report has now been received and is being examined in my Department. When this examination is completed a further meeting of the parties will be held with a view to settling a final plan. Pending the outcome of that meeting I cannot say when the final plan will emerge.
