Vol. 354 No. 7

Written Answers. - Beaumont (Dublin) Hospital.

718.

asked the Minister for Health the total capital cost incurred on Beaumont hospital to date; the monthly cost of debt service on this capital sum; the monthly cost of maintenance at the hospital; and, in the light of these figures, if he will take urgent steps to ensure that the enormous real cost each month to the taxpayer of this hospital remaining idle will be quickly brought to an end.

The total capital cost incurred on Beaumont hospital to date is £47.5 million. It is not possible to provide a monthly cost of debt service on this capital sum, since these costs form part of a large pool of funds borrowed at home and abroad at different rates of interest. The average monthly cost of maintenance, including staff salaries, is at the present time running at a cost of approximately £74,000.

Beaumont hospital is scheduled to open in July 1985 and the processes necessary to commission the hospital as scheduled are being actively pursued.
