The Department received a report recently about a death due to Weils disease. The health boards are routinely informed by the Department about reported cases of infectious diseases and deaths from infectious diseases. Cases of Weils disease are notified to the health boards under this system and the boards have been informed about the recently reported death from this disease.
In addition, the Department of Health have been in touch with the Irish Farmers' Association and, through DCC MOH's, with the local authorities about the protection of workers in environments which would make them susceptible to the disease.
