I would refer the Deputy to the reply to Question No. 348 of 21 October 1980 (Official Report, Volume 323, columns 253 to 256) in so far as the particulars sought in Questions Nos. 374 to 379 in respect of the years 1969 to 1979, inclusive, are concerned. The corresponding particulars relating to the years 1980 to 1983 are set out below.
As regards the request in Question No. 379 for a breakdown of Garda strength in certain areas, particulars of the strength in the Border divisions are not shown separately as it would be contrary to established practice and to the public interest to give the number of members assigned to these areas.
With regard to Questions Nos. 380 and 381, details of the Garda Síochána Vote and of the total expenditure on the public service for each year since 1969 are published in the annual Book of Estimates and in the Appropriation Accounts, respectively. These publications are available in the Oireachtas Library.
