Vol. 354 No. 12

Written Answers. - Appointment of Prison Officers.

390.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the high amount of overtime presently being worked by prison officers, he is considering the appointment of additional officers to our prisons; and in particular to Mountjoy Prison, Dublin.

Limerick East): The amount of overtime worked by prison officers has fallen by an average of three hours per officer per week since 1982. The prison service is subject to the terms of the Government embargo on the filling of posts. Some recruitment will, however, be taking place and, when it does, the question of the allocation of additional officers to Mountjoy Prison will be considered.
