asked the Minister for Justice the plans he has to update and modernise the Garda code.
Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 405 and 406 together. The Garda code is an internal confidential Garda document issued for the guidance of members of the force and the arrangements for updating it are a matter for the Garda authorities.
I am informed that the present edition of the code was printed in 1965 and was distributed to members of the force between October 1965 and June 1966. Amendments to the code since that time were effected by means of inserts or circulars issued as the need arose. I am informed that work on the preparation of a revised edition of the code is well advanced and that the new edition is expected to be distributed to members of the force within the next three to four months.
