The total provision in my Department's Vote to date has been £1.494 million comprising £0.492 million in 1983 and a further £1.002 million this year. The charter of the Irish Spruce to Irish Shipping Limited has now lapsed because the company is in liquidation. As this charter is fully guaranteed by the State consideration is being given to what alternative financial arrangements are now appropriate. In the circumstances it is not possible to say at present what the final cost to my Department's Vote will be.
