Vol. 354 No. 12

Written Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Industrial Development.

542.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if he is aware that the chairman of the Industrial Development Authority, at a recent Dún Laoghaire Chamber of Commerce function, suggested that some 300 jobs have been approved by the IDA for the Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin area; and if he will give details of (a) each individual project, its name, location, product, projected number of jobs and the period over which those jobs will arise; (b) job losses in IDA approved industries in the Dún Laoghaire constituency over the past three years, by company; (c) the steps, if any, the Government and the IDA have for the encouragement of new industry in the Dún Laoghaire area.

I am aware of the statement referred to by the Deputy. I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that there are almost 80 projects involved and details of the individual projects in respect of which grant payments will be made will be published in future IDA annual reports. I should add that details of additional employment or new products to be provided by individual firms and the period over which such employment will be provided would not be disclosed without the prior agreement of the firms concerned.

The IDA does not provide particulars of job losses on a constituency basis. However, in the Dún Laoghaire area approximately 700 jobs have been lost in industries grant-aided by IDA over the past three years. The details are set out in a tabular statement which I propose to circulate in the Official Report. The IDA is continuing to promote the Dún Laoghaire area for suitable overseas and domestic industrial projects. A major international business park comprising a site of 70 acres has been developed in nearby Leopardstown for international service industry. The first office unit of 14,000 sq. ft. has been completed and is fully reserved. In addition, a further two acres on the park have been reserved by three further companies to construct their own facilities.

Following is the tabular statement referred to:
