Vol. 354 No. 12

Written Answers. - County Cork Roads Expenditure.

549.

andMr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of money paid in block grant to Cork County Council for roads in Cork south, west and north individually for the years 1981, 1982 and 1983.

550.

asked the Minister for the Environment in view of the road mileage in Cork County Council dependent on block grant allocation, if he is satisfied that Cork county is getting the same rate per mile as other counties.

551.

andMr. D. Moynihan asked the Minister for the Environment in view of the deteriorating condition of roads in Cork south, north and west, if he will consider giving a 100 per cent increase in block grant allocation to Cork County Council for repair of these roads.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 549, 550 and 551 together.

The relationship between the amount of the block grant and the length of public roads (other than national roads) is set out in detail in the reply to Questions Nos. 2 and 3 on 7 November 1984.

The amounts of block grants paid to Cork County Council were as follows:— 1981, £954,000; 1982, £954,000; 1983, £1,097,500.

The division of the grant within the county is within the discretion of the county council.

I will give consideration to the question of increasing the block grant in my determination of the 1985 road grants.
