asked the Minister for Communications the actual outturn of capital invested in the production of buses for CIE in 1983; the number of buses delivered to CIE in 1983; and the export orders that were received and executed by the Shannon company.

CIE's 1983 capital allocation for road passenger projects, which is mainly accounted for by bus acquisitions, amounted to £16 million. In 1983 CIE took delivery of 66 double deck and 50 single deck buses at a cost of £15.484 million. You will appreciate that as the Shannon plant is operated by General Automotive Corporation, a private company, the question of export orders is not a matter coming within my responsibility.
