Vol. 354 No. 12

Written Answers. - Disabled Person's Maintenance Allowances.

593.

asked the Minister for Health the reason a disabled person's maintenance allowance for a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary which was only recently sanctioned since it was applied for three and a half years ago, has not been made retrospective as most other health boards have granted these retrospective payments dated to the time of application; if retrospective payments will be made in this case; and when these payments will be made.

The person in question, who is now living in a hostel in Limerick, was formerly resident in St. Vincent's centre, Lisnagry. An application on her behalf from St. Vincent's centre was received by the South Eastern Health Board on 11 June 1984. She was granted a disabled person's maintenance allowance which was paid from November 1984.

The question of retrospective payments is still being considered by the health board pending clarification of her date of entry to the hostel in 1983. As she was in full time residential care in St. Vincent's centre, Lisnagry prior to that date, she would not qualify for a disabled person's maintenance allowance.

594.

asked the Minister for Health the reason a disabled person's maintenance allowance has been withdrawn from a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary as this man is seriously ill and is totally unfit for work; when will this be restored; and if retrospective payments will be made to him.

The reason a disabled person's maintenance allowance was withdrawn from the person in question is that he was working. The person has appealed the matter and the South Eastern Health Board is at present considering the appeal. A decision on the appeal is expected shortly.
