Vol. 354 No. 12

Written Answers. - Aircraft Displays.

60.

asked the Minister for Communications if he proposes to review the regulations governing aerobatic displays by aircraft over crowds in view of the number of recent fatal crashes at such displays.

There were two fatal accidents at air displays in Ireland during 1984, one at Strandhill, County Sligo, on 1 April and the other at Fairyhouse, County Meath on 12 August. Both accidents are the subject of investigations under the Air Navigation (Investigation of Accidents) Regulations, 1957, and when the accident reports are available to me I will consider whether it is necessary to review the conditions for the holding of air displays. These conditions at present prohibit the performance of aerobatic manoeuvres over spectators.
