Vol. 354 No. 12

Written Answers. - County Wexford Coast Protection.

151.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the imminent danger to Rosslare village because of coastal erosion: if he is aware of the dependence of Rosslare on tourism; and if he will make funds available to deal with the problem.

I am aware of the position in regard to coastal erosion at Rosslare and the importance of tourism to the area is recognised. Funds will continue to be made available for maintenance of the existing coast protection works at Rosslare. An application under the 1963 Coast Protection Act has been made by Wexford County Council for a new coast protection scheme and this application is under consideration by the Commissioners of Public Works. The question of funds for a new scheme will not arise until all the relevant statutory preliminaries have been completed.
