Vol. 355 No. 4

Written Answers. - Clogherhead (Louth) Harbour.

397.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he has received the report on Clogherhead pier, County Louth, from Louth County Council; the reason for the delay; and if he is aware that a recent examination of the pier foundation indicates that it is now in danger of complete collapse which could result in serious loss of life to fishermen and the general public.

At a meeting in July 1984 between officials of my Department, the Office of Public Works, Louth County Council and their consulting engineers, proposals for the development of Clogherhead harbour submitted by the council's consultants on the basis of the model survey carried out by University College, Cork, were discussed and a further report was sought from the consultants. This report is being examined in my Department. When this examination is completed a further meeting of the parties will be held with a view to settling a final plan. I am fully aware of the condition of the pier but a decision on the work to be undertaken must await the completion of the necessary investigations.
