Vol. 355 No. 4

Written Answers. - EC Directive on Air Services.

409.

asked the Minister for Communications whether Ireland has complied with her obligation to implement the EC directive concerning the authorisation of scheduled interregional air services, which was to be implemented not later than 10 October 1984; and if he will make a statement on the present position.

The Council Directive on Inter-Regional Air Services (83/416/EEC) which came into effect on 1 October 1984 is being implemented in Ireland through the exercise of the powers already vested in me as Minister under the provisions of the Air Navigation and Transport Act, 1965, relating to the authorisation of air services.

The terms of the directive have been brought to the attention of all Irish air companies which currently hold authorisations for the operation of air services. In addition, notification of the coming into effect of the directive has been publicised in the national daily newspapers and in the Aeronautical Information Publication — Ireland which is distributed internationally and gives comprehensive information for persons operating or intending to operate air services into or out of Ireland. I will be happy to approve any applications conforming with the terms of the Council Directive.
