The registration of a building as a place where marriages may be solemnised requires that an application be sent to the Registrar or to An tArd-Chláraitheoir. The legal provisions governing such applications are set out in section 27 of the Marriages (Ireland) Act, 1844, and section 32 of the Marriage Law (Ireland) Amendment Act, 1863, as amended by the Marriage Law (Ireland) Amendment Act, 1873, and the Marriages Act, 1972.
