Vol. 355 No. 11

Written Answers. - Donegal Road Damage.

417.

asked the Minister for the Environment in view of the severe damage caused by frost to the road network in Donegal, if he will make a special allocation to the county council to cover such damage; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The funds available to me for road grants in the current year have already been fully committed and accordingly I am not in a position to notify an additional grant for the purpose mentioned.

Discussions have taken place, at enginerring level, between my Department and Donegal County Council regarding frost damage to roads in the area and the council have already commenced remedial works on the roads affected. These works may be financed from the local authority's own resources (including the rate support grants), block grant and the appropriate road maintenance grants already notified to them for 1985. The position will be kept under review during 1985, having regard to the actual cost of the remedial works, the council's overall road grant programme, and expenditure in other areas.
