Vol. 355 No. 11

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

420.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will arrange for immediate payment of the balance of a home improvement grant to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The grant has been paid in full in this case.

421.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in the payment of a house improvement grant to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford.

As my Department has not been notified so far of the completion of the relevant works in this case, the question of making payment does not arise at this stage.

422.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of reconstruction grant applications made in County Waterford for the years 1982, 1983 and 1984; and the number of (1) approvals granted and (2) refusals in the same years.

423.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of new house grant applications made in County Waterford for the years 1982, 1983 and 1984; the number of (1) approvals granted and (2) refusals in the same years.

I propose to reply to Questions Nos. 422 and 423 together. The following table shows the number of applications made and the number of approvals issued in respect of (a) the new house grant scheme and (b) the improvement grant scheme for the years 1982, 1983 and 1984 for County Waterford.

Note: In relation to the improvement grant scheme the variation, in particular, in 1983 and 1984 between applications and approvals is because the numbers of approvals are calculated by reference to the different categories of works carried out under the scheme i.e. provision of bathroom, bedroom etc.

The information requested regarding rejections is not readily available in my Department because details of rejected applications are not maintained and with the available staff resources it would not be possible to have this information extracted without seriously affecting the progress of day to day work.

424.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make a statement on the present position with regard to the application for a new house grant made by a person (details supplied) in County Limerick; and when this grant will be paid.

This person's application for a new house grant was refused in February 1983 because, contrary to a statutory condition of the scheme, the foundations of his house were completed before 27 May 1977.
