Vol. 355 No. 12

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take item No. 8.

On the Order of Business, might I ask the Minister for Energy to pay attention to a matter of grave, urgent concern to the people of Cork that, whereas five sets of traffic lights are turned off at present so as to——

(Interruptions.)

One second. It might be funny but it is something of real, not imaginary concern. The reason those traffic lights have been turned off——

The lights are off all over Cork and they will be on again.

——is because of the possibility of explosions of gas leaks in the city. If that is not of grave concern — and I do not know what the Government people are laughing at——

The Deputy will have to find another means of raising this. The Deputy will resume his seat.

This is a time bomb on which the people are sitting. Would the Minister for Energy give it his personal attention?

Would the Taoiseach confirm for the record of the House that the social employment scheme to give employment to 10,000 young people will be officially announced? It was first announced last October under the national plan. When will this scheme be implemented?

If I might respond on behalf of the Government, full details of the scheme will be announced on 22 February 1985.
