Vol. 356 No. 1

Written Answers. - Employment Incentive Scheme.

597.

asked the Minister for Labour when the details of the operation of the employment incentive scheme for 1985 will be announced; and if he will consider bringing forward the operation of the scheme for this year in view of genuine employment recruitment circumstances as outlined in a case (details supplied) in County Wexford.

The employment incentive scheme will continue in 1985 in the same format in which it operated in 1984. A notice to this effect will in the near future be inserted in the national press. The format of the scheme will, however, be reviewed during 1985.

The case to which the Deputy refers is one where an employer applied for assistance under the scheme in respect of four additional employees recruited within 1984. The scheme as structured, assists additional recruitments within a limit of two per annum and accordingly, two of the recruitments did not qualify for payment in 1984. As the recruitment limit is, however, calculated on an annual basis, the employer concerned may recruit two additional employees under the scheme in 1985.
