Vol. 356 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

438.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the total amount of moneys specifying the details of the expenditure paid by his Department to counties Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan and Roscommon for 1982, 1983 and 1984.

The only moneys paid by my Department during the years 1982, 1983 and 1984 to counties Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan and Roscommon were in respect of food subsidy payments to bakeries. As records of food subsidy payments are not kept on a county basis, and some 7,000 such payments are made each year, I consider that the information sought by the Deputy could only be compiled by the expenditure of staff time which would be out of proportion to the results achieved. In addition it must be pointed out that these are consumer subsidies and that the products manufactured in particular counties are not necessarily consumed in those counties.
