Vol. 356 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dungarvan (Waterford) Road Completion.

442.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the long delay in having the Ring Road, Dungarvan, County Waterford completed; the amount of money allocated by his Department; and when the allocation was made for this work.

This project involves inter alia the provision of a new river bridge and approach roads. The delay in completing the scheme is due mainly to the construction of causeways which had to be allowed to stabilise in the river bed. If this work had not been done, the cost of the scheme would have been substantially higher. The entire cost of the scheme is being financed by way of grants from my Department; the first grant payment was made in 1980. To date, grants totalling £1,137,177 have been committed to the scheme while a total of £969,177 has been paid.
