Vol. 356 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ballycroy (Mayo) Turbary.

566.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the serious position of tenants in Doona, Ballycroy, County Mayo, who have applied for turbary rights in the Ballycroy area over a number of years without success and who are now discouraged by the fact that the Department of Fisheries and Forestry are purchasing all of the commonage in the area for planting and thus creating a situation where small farmers in the area will lose all turbary rights; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

All Land Commission turbary in this area is let each year to local people on a seasonal basis. The Land Commission has no plans to acquire further turbary.
