Vol. 357 No. 5

Written Answers. - Remedial Works Scheme.

506.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the urgent need to carry out repairs and improvements to a number of houses at (1) Woodview, Cahir, County Tipperary; (2) Middlequarter, Killenaule, Thurles, County Tipperary; (3) Carronreddy, County Tipperary and (4) Clerihan, Clonmel, County Tipperary; his proposals for dealing with the various housing schemes in question; if he will give sanction to the early commencement of the work; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have received applications within the past few days for allocations of capital under the new remedial works scheme announced in the National Plan in respect of houses at Woodview, Castlequarter, Killenaule, and Carronreddy. The applications are being examined and the local authorities concerned will be contacted as soon as possible. No application has been received under the scheme in respect of Clerihan, Clonmel.

Improvement grants and special capital allocations have been approved in respect of the installation of solid fuel appliances in certain local authority dwellings at Woodview, Clerihan and Carronreddy. Arrangements are being made for an inspection of the work with a view to finalising the payment of the grants and the making of the capital allocations as appropriate.
